ELAG Verpackungen AG Implements Integrated Warehouse Management System
ELAG Verpackungen AG is a leading manufacturer of flexible plastic foils using for packaging. ELAG Verpackungen AG supplies a variety of packaging materials that are increasingly replacing traditional materials, to package pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, detergents, foods, pet foods and chemicals. The enterprise employs a staff of 150 worldwide.
As part of the expansion of its manfacturing facility in Kirchberg, ELAG also invested in a new heated warehouse with 320 storage locations. The warehouse is used for the interim storage of foils so that they can mature. apixxo AG was contracted to supply a warehouse management solution as well as a system that controls and monitors the materials handling equipment. All devices were also integated with the business software solution employed by ELAG. apixxo AG implemented featherlite framework as well as the components Warehouse Management and Warehouse Control.
In a first step, the featherlite framework was used to integrate the plant management solution that controls all goods movements within the warehouse with the handheld devices used by warehouse staff. A standard adapter is used to transfer data via the framework to the INFOR ERP system used by ELAG. The result is a seamless data integration solution between business software and the device level.
The standard components Warehose Management and Warehouse Control supply all functions required of a modern Warehouse Management solution. apixxo AG also implemented a variety of customer-specific extensions in order to precisely meet ELAG process requirements. Tor instance, the system enables random storage whilst taking into account equal distribution parameters. It also manages stock according to minimum and maximum maturing times.
The technological advantage provided by apixxo solutions was demonstrated during implementation. As apixxo solutions are designed to enable the rapid implementation of customer-specific requirements as well as to communicate with the device level and third party systems, the complete solution, including all customer-specific extensions, went live after only two weeks.
